Effects of light intensity on oxygen distribution, lipid production and biological community of algal-bacterial granules in photo-sequencing batch reactors.

The effects of light intensity (0-225 umol m-2 s-1) distribution of oxygen, lipid production and the structure of biological communities of algae-bacterial granules are investigated in the six photo-sequencing batch reactor identical (with a / light dark cycle of 12 h / 12 h). Usually bacterial grain-green algae could be developed in light intensity ≥135 umol m-2 s-1. Lipid content increased significantly under higher light intensity, while the percentage of saturated fatty acid methyl esters are greatly decreased.

The results showed that the light intensity ≥90 umol m-2 s-1 produces enough O2 production from algae, creating an aerobic / anoxic zone (0.3 to 0.6 mg-O2 ​​/ L) in the core granules and algal symbiosis system -bakteri so efficient. Increased nitrogen and phosphorus removal is achieved in a reactor with a strong light illumination, probably caused by the enrichment of ammonia oxidizing bacteria (Comamonadaceae and Nitrosomonadaceae) and algae (Navicula and Stigeoclonium). Lighting ≥180 umol m-2 s-1 is found to be beneficial for Nitrospiraceae.
